Lezhnevsky Municipal District
The Lezhnevsky District is situated to the
South of the City of Ivanovo
and comprises 8 settlements with a total population of over 19,000 people.
The climate here is temperately continental
with a warm summer and reasonably cold snowy winter.
11 rivers run through the District, there
are also three medium sized extremely beautiful lakes which are favourite leisure
spots for the local population and are listed as protected areas of natural
beauty.
The District’s main settlement is Lezhnevo,
it was first mentioned in the manuscripts in the second half of the 16th
Century. By the end of the 17th
Century Lezhnevo had already become a prominent trading village with a State
salt outlet, 34 merchant’s shops, many inns, beer houses and tavernas.
At the end of the 18th Century
textile works had been established in the village, the spinning and weaving
factory being still the main employer in Lezhnevo.
The village’s pride and joy is the bell
tower built to commemorate the victory over Napoleon.
To a great degree modern Lezhnevo has
retained the image of an ancient and industrial settlement.
