District of Gavrilov Posad in
the Ivanovo Region of Central Russia, covers 95,000 hectares, and has a
population
of over 19,000. The
District, famous for
its agricultural products and peat extraction, was established in 1929. The main town of the
District is Gavrilov
Posad, an old Russian town sitting at the crossroad of ancient trade
routes. The
town’s crest features heads of
wheat and rye, reflecting its agricultural roots, and the famous
Vladimir Heavy
Horse bred in its stables during the times of Ivan the Terrible.
