The town of Gavrilov Yam dates back to the 16^th Century.  It is situated in the south of the Yaroslavl Region and is the administrative centre of the Gavrilov Yam Municipal Borough.

The town spreads over 1,100 hectares; its population is over 18 thousand people. 

Gavrilov Yam has 197 industrial enterprises, the largest of which are the linen factory and the machine building plant. 

The town has 8 cultural and recreational centres, 7 kindergartens and 4 schools.
