Sarov In Bloom 2009





Sarov is a unique town where a massive high tech scientific and engineering centre sits side by side with one of Russia’s most sacred monuments associated with Saint Seraphim Sarovsky.  The first Soviet atom bomb was developed in the town which is still called the atomic shield of Russia.

The town, with a population of 90,000 people covers 232 sq kms and has 100 streets 12 of which are named after its famous citizens. 

There are several comprehensive and specialised schools and lyceums, as well as children’s sports school, ice palace, theatre and libraries.  There are 9 nature reserves in Sarov.
