Suzdal District In Bloom 2009

   

The Suzdal District was founded in 1929.  It is situated in the Northern part of the Vladimir Region, its territory exceeds 1,600 sq kms, its population 46,000.  Agriculture is the main industry of this district, which is famous as the granary of the Vladimir Region.

However, World fame came to the Suzdal land through its history, architecture and unique culture.  It was here that the foundation of the Russian State was laid, this is where Russia started.  The famous tourist route “The Golden Ring” of Russia runs through it.  The District is renound for its unique white stone architectural monuments of the 12th – 13th centauries, many of them are in the list of UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage Sites. 

The District’s main town, Suzdal, attracts universal interest and attention, as it has preserved a precious heritage – the many thousand years of Russia’s history.

Many changes have taken place over ten centauries, and yet Suzdal retained the complete layout of a medieval town:  The Kremlin – trading quarters – monasteries.  Over 200 historical and architectural monuments of the 10 – 20th Centuries are situated inside an area of 9 sq kms.
