Tchaikovsky  In Bloom 2009

Tchaikovsky, one of the loveliest towns of the Perm Region, with a population of 90,000, was named after the great Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, whose birthplace Votkinsk is only 37 kilometres away.  The town was founded at the site of the ancient village of Saigatka, known since 1646.  This cosy green town sits on the left bank of the river Kama, and backs up to the surrounding forest.

One of the town’s largest enterprises is the Votkinskaya Hydroelectric Station, built in 1955.  There are over 20 industrial complexes in the town amongst them the silk factory, synthetic rubber plant and a manufacturer of gas ovens.  The town has 13 schools, 4 vocational schools, 5 specialised colleges, the Institute of Physical Culture, 2 branches of technical universities, 17 libraries, 42 pre school centres, a museum of natural history, picture gallery and drama theatre.

The fine traditions of the town beautification, set by those who built Tchaikovsky 50 years ago, have been kept up to date.  The competition has been organised by the fund ”Pervotsvet".
