The City of Tver is one of the ancient cities of Russia.  Founded at the beginning of the 12^th Century, it quickly grew into a large trading centre and is now a developed industrial city of the Upper Volga area of Central Russia.  The population of the City is over 400,000.  It enjoys excellent transport links with Moscow which is only 167 km away, and has the largest port on the Volga River.

The City is the capital of the Tver Region, which was previously a Principality in its own right.
